What this indicator measures
Cement and clinker (the intermediate product from which cement is made), as dry bulk or in bags. Puertos del Estado publishes every month the tonnes of this commodity loaded, unloaded or in transit across all ports of general interest, as a cumulative figure since January, and once a year the breakdown by port authority. Figures for the current year are provisional until the yearbook is published.
Context
Cement plants located near the coast ship their output through nearby ports, and volume follows Spain’s construction cycle and foreign demand. When the domestic market slows, exports gain weight; when it recovers, inbound flows increase.
