The balance is the difference between what Spain sells and what it buys; the coverage ratio is the percentage of imports paid for by exports. The latest months are provisional and are revised.
Context
Spain exports around €390 billion a year and imports slightly more, with a structural deficit that energy makes wider. France, Germany, Portugal and Italy are the main customers; China, Germany and France the main suppliers. About two thirds of trade by volume passes through the ports.
