What this map shows

The map shows in real time the ships sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bay of Algeciras, based on the AIS (Automatic Identification System) signals that vessels broadcast and VesselFinder collects. Click on a ship to see its name, type, course, speed and declared destination.

Positions depend on a receiving station picking up the signal: some ships may appear a few minutes late, and those that switch off their transponder do not appear at all. It is a snapshot of the moment, not a historical record.
