The three Valencian ports of general interest (Valencia, Castellón and Alicante) handled 68.8 million tonnes of total traffic in the year to August 2026, 0.6% more than in the same period of 2025. In August alone, the figure was 8.42 million tonnes, 6.1% more than in August 2025.

The Valencian ports account for 18.5% of the Spanish port system’s total traffic in the year to August 2026, which totalled 373 million tonnes.

Valencia ranks first among port authorities in the Valencian Community with 53.1 million tonnes in the year to August 2026 (2.5% less than a year earlier). It is followed by Castellón (13.5 million) and Alicante (2.24 million).

This page adds up their total traffic from the Puertos del Estado monthly statistics, compares them with each other and calculates what share of the Spanish port system they represent.

Context

Valencia is one of the Mediterranean’s main container ports and accounts for most Valencian traffic, with Sagunto specialising in steel, gas and cars. Castellón mainly handles bulk linked to the ceramics industry and refining, and Alicante combines bulk, general cargo and cruises.
