What this indicator measures
Andalusia has six cruise ports: Málaga, Cádiz, Sevilla, Motril, Almería and Huelva, plus occasional calls at Algeciras. Puertos del Estado counts each cruise passenger at every port where they embark, disembark or are in transit, and calls count cruise-ship arrivals. The two strong seasons are spring and autumn.
Context
Málaga and Cádiz are Andalusia’s two main cruise ports and swap first place depending on the year: Málaga also operates as a home port and Cádiz receives large ships in transit. Sevilla, given the Guadalquivir’s draught, river and small cruise ships. Motril is preparing a cruise terminal for 2027 and Huelva and Almería are growing from small figures.
