What this indicator measures

Passengers at Andalusian ports are of two kinds: those on regular lines to Ceuta, Melilla, Morocco and Algeria (Algeciras, Almería, Motril, Málaga) and cruise passengers (Málaga, Cádiz, Sevilla, Motril, Almería, Huelva). Puertos del Estado counts each passenger at every port where they embark, disembark or are in transit.

Context

Bahía de Algeciras is Andalusia’s first passenger port thanks to the lines to Ceuta and Tanger Med and the Operación Paso del Estrecho, which concentrates the bulk of the year between June and September. Málaga and Cádiz rely on cruises and the lines to Melilla; Almería and Motril on the connections to Nador, Oran, Ghazaouet and Melilla.
