What this indicator measures
For each port of general interest, EED Data calculates the median price of automotive diesel at filling stations within 15 kilometres by road, using the official daily prices published by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition (hydrocarbons geoportal). The median prevents one very expensive or very cheap station from distorting the local price. The ranking orders port areas from cheapest to most expensive.

Context
Diesel is the largest variable cost of road haulage and decides where a lorry loading or unloading at a port refuels. The Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla have their own tax regime and lower prices, so they are compared with their own reference.
