What this indicator measures
Every month Eurostat measures the volume of output of transport and storage companies (services production index, sts_sepr_m), with 2021 average = 100 and adjusted for calendar and seasonal effects. A value of 120 means 20% more real activity than in 2021; it is neither tonnes nor nominal turnover. It is the sector’s economic barometer, comparable across countries.
Context
Spanish logistics activity has grown faster than the EU average since 2021, driven by e-commerce, tourism and agri-food exports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Poland are the major hubs worth comparing with: when Spain grows faster than them year on year, the sector gains weight in Europe.
