Definition
Social Security registration is the number of people registered and paying contributions, as employees or as self-employed workers. It is the fastest and most complete employment figure available in Spain, because it comes from a register and not from a survey.
It is published every month as an average number of registered workers and is broken down by scheme, by province and by economic activity according to the CNAE classification. Transport and storage make up section H, which groups land, water and air transport, warehousing and support activities, and postal and courier activities.
A person with two jobs counts twice, because what is recorded are employment relationships. Even so, the year-on-year change in registration is the usual reference for knowing whether a sector is creating or shedding jobs.
