What are regular-line passengers

Definition

Regular-line passengers are the travellers who use a maritime service with a fixed route, timetable and frequency, such as a ferry. Port statistics separate them from cruise passengers.

These are the services that link mainland Spain with the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and North Africa, those that connect the islands with each other and those that cross the bays. For people who live on the islands and in the autonomous cities, part of these services are public transport and have subsidised fares.

The statistics count each embarkation and each disembarkation, so a traveller making a return trip between two Spanish ports appears several times. Regular-line passengers usually travel with passenger vehicles and ro-ro cargo on the same ship.
