Definition
Professional diesel is the tax scheme under which hauliers recover part of the hydrocarbons tax on the diesel their vehicles consume. The fuel is the same standard road diesel (gasóleo A) sold at any service station: what changes is the refund.
Goods vehicles with a maximum authorised mass of 7.5 tonnes or more, buses and taxis are eligible. The holder registers with the Agencia Tributaria, the Spanish tax agency, and refuels with a specific card, which records the litres entitled to a refund, up to an annual maximum per vehicle.
Fuel is one of the largest operating costs of a lorry, so the pump price of standard road diesel is a daily reference for transport companies. The figure that accompanies this page is that price at the service stations close to the ports.
