What is the PLSCI

Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index

Data · Source · UNCTAD

Definition

The PLSCI is the port-level version of UNCTAD’s maritime connectivity index: it measures the position of each port in the global network of scheduled container services on the basis of the services that call there.

It uses the same components as the country index: calls, deployed capacity, services, shipping lines, size of the largest ship and ports connected directly. It is published every quarter for close to a thousand ports around the world.

It allows ports of different sizes and functions to be compared with the same yardstick. Hub ports tend to score high, because they concentrate many services and large ships, even though part of that connectivity serves the cargo of other countries.
