The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has approved a new tender for the maintenance of docks and wooden structures in its port facilities, with an annual budget of 158,753 euros, which represents an increase of 28.6% compared to the current contract in force.
This service is essential to ensure the proper conservation and functioning of various infrastructures located in Algeciras, Tarifa, San Roque, and La Línea de la Concepción. Among them, the nautical-sport and tourist docks in Tarifa, the wooden walkway of Saladillo, the facilities of Llano Amarillo, the dock of Puerto Chico, and the structures of the Gallegos breakwater in Puente Mayorga stand out.
The increase in the budget mainly responds to the rise in material costs and labor experienced in recent years, especially between 2021 and 2024, as well as to the adjustment of prices in line with current market values. Additionally, the new technical specifications include adjustments to ensure a greater scope of service and compliance with current regulations.
The APBA emphasizes that continuous maintenance is essential due to the wear and tear from daily use and the adverse weather conditions in the area, especially in Tarifa, where strong easterly and westerly winds cause recurring damage to the facilities. Lack of intervention could lead to structural deterioration and even the collapse of the docks, affecting port operations and the safety of users.
The current contract, awarded in 2021, will conclude its last extension in July 2026, paving the way for this new phase of enhanced maintenance.
