Axpo has carried out its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply operation to vessels in the Port of Valencia, through a ship-to-ship fuel transfer (ship-to-ship) intended for a container ship of an international transport and logistics company. The operation, developed on Tuesday, October 13, was carried out with the supply vessel Alisios, with a capacity of 12,500 cubic meters, and has included a proportion exceeding 50% bio-LNG in the delivered fuel.

With this operation, Valencia becomes the fourth Spanish port where Axpo carries out LNG supplies, after previous operations in Malaga, Algeciras, and Barcelona. The company thus expands its marine fuel supply activity in Spanish ports, where it has developed various operations since April 2025.

The bio-LNG supplied in Valencia comes from organic raw materials, including biomass, waste, and agricultural residues. This renewable fuel can be used in vessels prepared to operate with LNG, allowing the incorporation of renewable gas into maritime supply.

The transfer has been carried out from the Alisios, a vessel specialized in LNG supply that Axpo presented in March 2026 in the Port of Huelva. The vessel has a storage capacity of 12,500 cubic meters and operates along the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, attending to LNG and bio-LNG supply operations.

Daniele Corti, head of small-scale LNG at Axpo, has highlighted the importance of the Port of Valencia within the company's commercial strategy, considering its container traffic volume and its position among the main European ports in this segment.

According to Corti, incorporating Valencia into the network of ports served by Axpo allows for the expansion of LNG supply services to clients operating in different European port locations.

The company began its LNG supply operations in Spain in April 2025 when it made its first delivery at the Port of Malaga. Subsequently, it extended this activity to the Port of Algeciras, the Portuguese port of Sines, and the Port of Barcelona, before now incorporating Valencia into its operations.

This activity has developed alongside the expansion of maritime means used by Axpo for LNG supply. The availability of specialized vessels allows for direct transfers to receiving vessels, through ship-to-ship supply operations.

Axpo's activity in marine fuels also includes operations in Italy. In December 2025, the company made the first ship-to-ship bio-LNG supply in that country in Genoa. Subsequently, it developed new operations in Naples in May 2026, and in Civitavecchia in August of the same year.

The incorporation of Valencia occurs within the extension of Axpo's LNG and bio-LNG supply services in Mediterranean and Iberian Peninsula ports. The company provides these services to maritime operators using vessels with propulsion systems compatible with these fuels.

In the case of Valencia, the operation has allowed for the supply of a blend with a majority share of bio-LNG to a container ship dedicated to international cargo transport. Axpo has not specified the identity of the receiving shipping company nor the total volume of fuel transferred during the operation.
