The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) is participating since this Tuesday in a new edition of Fruit Attraction, held in Madrid, accompanied by 24 companies from its port community and with horticultural traffic as one of the main axes of its presence at the fair.

The participating companies are Agsa Partida, Algetransit, Americold, Bernardina Customs and Transport, DFDS Iberia, ECS 360 Logistics, Leoproex, Logistika 360, Maritime of the Strait, Mertramar Algeciras, Nieves Logistics Operators, Proex Logistics, Raminatrans, Salvat Logistics, SAM Algeciras, TIBA, Total Logistics Services, Tramarco, Transbull, Transit 2000, Transportes Bolipesk, Transsur, TTI Algeciras, and UCC Iberia.

All of them will have a meeting point at the APBA stand at IFEMA, integrated into the space of State Ports. Fruit Attraction brings together companies and professionals linked to the value chain of the international horticultural sector.

The traffic of fruits and vegetables is part of the goods considered strategic by the Port of Algeciras. In import, Costa Rica and Peru are the main countries of origin for the refrigerated cargo that arrives through the Algeciras port facilities.

Egypt figures among the markets that have grown the most. According to the data provided by the APBA, the traffic from this country has increased by 185% in the cumulative since 2024, mainly as a source of citrus.

Conversely, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil appear as the main destinations for the horticultural traffic channeled through the Port of Algeciras.

By products, pineapples, avocados, and bananas are among the goods with the greatest presence in imports. In exports, stone fruit gains prominence, mainly apricots, peaches, and cherries.

Among the products that have recorded the greatest growth is also cassava, whose imports have increased by 111%.

The presence of the Port of Algeciras at Fruit Attraction will also serve to present several projects related to digitalization and information exchange within the logistics chains.

Among them is the interoperability project between the Central American Digital Trade Platform of the Central American Economic Integration Secretariat (SIECA) and the Port Community System of the Port of Algeciras.

This initiative develops within the Global Gateway strategy of the European Union and will continue on the next 17th and 18th of November, when Algeciras will host a High-Level EU-Central America Mission.

According to the information provided by the APBA, ministers of Economy and Trade from Central American countries, European Union and Spanish authorities, logistics operators, and exporting companies will participate in this meeting.

The Port Authority will likewise announce the new services aimed at heavy traffic of Teleport 2.0, a tool that the APBA is implementing.

Along with digital projects, the capacity dedicated to refrigerated goods is another of the elements that the Port of Algeciras will bring to Fruit Attraction. The two container terminals together have more than 5,500 reefer plugs.

These connections are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week to attend to import and export traffic and operations linked to the use of the port as a logistics platform for other markets.

In addition to this infrastructure, the available capacity in cold terminals and logistics areas close to the port facility can together accommodate more than 30,000 pallets.

The joint participation of the APBA and the 24 companies from its port community will allow concentrating in the Algeciras space operators linked to different areas of the logistics chain, including transport, transit, customs services, logistics, storage, and port operations.

Fruit Attraction will also serve to present the evolution of the main origins, destinations, and products that use Algeciras within their transport chains, as well as the digital projects linked to Central America and the tools applied to the management of heavy traffic.

This year's edition also coincides with the preparations for the High-Level EU-Central America Mission scheduled for November in Algeciras, linked to the interoperability project between the SIECA platform and the community port system of the Algeciras enclave.
