HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort GmbH, located in the Port of Hamburg, has ordered eight hybrid straddle carriers Konecranes Noell NSC 644 EHY as part of its strategy to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The contract was formalized in the fourth quarter of 2025 and the units are expected to enter service by the end of 2026.
The eight new machines will be used for container transport between the dock and the yard, as well as for stacking operations and handling trucks and trains on the land side. These machines will replace older models powered exclusively by diesel that perform the same functions.
Each of the new units is equipped with a diesel generator and an onboard battery system, allowing for significantly lower fuel consumption and emissions reduction compared to conventional diesel propulsion, without compromising performance. The straddle carriers also incorporate a lifting system that allows the operator to access the cabin comfortably.
This investment supports our long-term development plans for Container Terminal Tollerort. We have extensive experience with Konecranes Noell straddle carriers and value their solid performance. Choosing their proven hybrid solution helps us meet our CO2 reduction goals while maintaining the high productivity we need in daily operations,” declared Ingo Witte, CEO of HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort GmbH.
