The port and industrial complex of Tanger Med will launch a new trade mission to Japan this Monday, November 9, just days after the Port of Algeciras concluded its institutional and business visit to the Asian country. The Moroccan initiative, called Japan Roadshow 2026, includes two days of meetings with Japanese companies in Osaka and Tokyo, aimed at presenting its port, logistics and industrial platform and exploring investment opportunities in Morocco.
The first session will be held on Monday, November 9, in Osaka, while the second will take place on Thursday, November 12, in Tokyo. Both events will run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the offices of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), the financial institution participating in organizing the meetings alongside Sumitomo Corporation.
According to the official program published by Tanger Med Zones, the mission includes business meetings with representatives from the automotive, aerospace, electronics, logistics and renewable energy sectors. The aim is to showcase the investment opportunities offered by the Moroccan complex and establish contacts for developing industrial and technology projects linked to international supply chains.
The Moroccan delegation will include institutional representatives, Tanger Med officials and executives from Japanese companies. Participants include Morocco’s ambassador to Japan, Rachad Bouhlal, who will deliver the opening remarks, as well as the director general of the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), Ali Seddiki, who will present investment opportunities in the North African country.
For his part, Tanger Med Zones Director General Ahmed Bennis will outline the features of the port, logistics and industrial platform and its links to global value chains. The presentation will focus on the infrastructure available to international companies and the model for integrating industrial and logistics activities developed around the Moroccan port.
The program also includes presentations by SMBC on Morocco’s macroeconomic outlook, its role in international supply chains and financial instruments to support Japanese investment. In addition, Sumitomo Wiring Systems will present its industrial experience in Morocco, while Sumitomo Corporation executive Kazuhiro Nagareta will discuss opportunities in the Moroccan market from the perspective of Japanese companies.
The sessions will conclude with a question-and-answer period and business meetings designed to facilitate direct contact between Tanger Med representatives and participating companies.
The offering Tanger Med will present in Japan is built around an industrial platform that, according to the group’s own figures, covers around 3,000 hectares and hosts approximately 1,500 companies, with nearly 145,000 jobs associated with its various activity zones.
The November mission is not Tanger Med’s first trade outreach to the Japanese market. From October 27 to 31, 2025, Tanger Med Zones organized an economic outreach campaign that included meetings in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo. That visit enabled the group to establish contacts with Japanese business groups in the automotive, aerospace, railway and other industrial sectors.
The Moroccan group reported on the results of that mission in its corporate publication for the fourth quarter of 2025. According to this document, the program aimed to promote Tanger Med Zones as an industrial and logistics base for companies seeking to operate in European, African and international markets.
The new visit follows the trade mission carried out by the Port of Algeciras in late October, which was attended by a delegation of around 30 professionals led by Gerardo Landaluce, president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA); Carlos Fenoy, president of the Chamber of Commerce; and José Manuel Tejedor, president of the Port Community.
The main event of the Algeciras mission was held on October 28 at the Spanish Embassy in Tokyo, where the Port of Algeciras’s offering was presented to representatives of the Japanese maritime community. Participants included Japan’s vice minister of transport and tourism, Yoshimichi Terada; the secretary general of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), Masahiko Furuichi; and Spain’s ambassador to Japan, Íñigo de Palacio.
The agenda included meetings with shipping companies, logistics operators and institutional representatives, as well as participation in the TradeWinds Shipowners Forum Japan 2026. The delegation included representatives from 13 companies in the port community and received support from ICEX and the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Tokyo.
Although both initiatives target the Japanese market and are taking place just a few weeks apart, their programs have different focuses. The Port of Algeciras mission centered on maritime connectivity, port services, the energy transition and relations with Japanese shipping companies and operators. Tanger Med, on the other hand, has organized its Osaka and Tokyo meetings around attracting industrial investment, technological cooperation and establishing companies in the economic zones linked to the Moroccan complex.
