Marsa Maroc remains included in the Casablanca Stock Exchange’s MASI ESG Index, following the publication of its new composition, which took effect on November 3. The Moroccan port operator, listed under the name SODEP-Marsa Maroc, continues to be one of the 20 companies selected according to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

The annual review of the index, announced by the Casablanca Stock Exchange on October 27, establishes a new list of listed companies that meet the selection criteria associated with their non-financial assessments. Marsa Maroc retains its place in this group, which also includes financial institutions, industrial companies, energy companies, and businesses from other sectors of the Moroccan economy.

The company has announced that it remains in the MASI ESG and has linked this to the integration of sustainability and corporate responsibility criteria into its management model. It has stated that environmental, social, and governance issues are part of its development strategy and corporate responsibility commitments.

The MASI ESG is a thematic stock market index of the Casablanca Stock Exchange that brings together companies selected based on assessments of their environmental, social, and corporate governance practices. Its composition is reviewed periodically to incorporate the results of these assessments and determine which companies remain in the index.

The methodology used by the Casablanca Stock Exchange is based on assessments by LSEG Data & Analytics, formerly associated with Refinitiv. The methodological review presented in November 2023 established an analysis system covering more than 160 criteria across the three ESG areas. The subjects examined include resource management, emissions, working conditions, stakeholder relations, and corporate governance mechanisms.

The 2026 selection includes six banking institutions: Attijariwafa Bank, Bank of Africa, Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP), BMCI, Crédit du Maroc, and CIH Bank. The index also includes companies such as Akdital, Aradei Capital, Auto Hall, Cosumar, HPS, Itissalat Al-Maghrib, LafargeHolcim Maroc, Lesieur Cristal, Managem, Société des Boissons du Maroc, Sonasid, Taqa Morocco, and Wafa Assurance, as well as Marsa Maroc.

The review adds Wafa Assurance and marks BCP’s return, while AtlantaSanad and Ciments du Maroc are no longer included in the selection compared with the previous composition. Marsa Maroc, for its part, remains in an index it has been part of since January 2023, according to information in its previous corporate publications.

In the port sector, Marsa Maroc’s operations include running terminals and providing services related to cargo handling and vessel services. Its operations span various ports in Morocco, covering containers, dry and liquid bulk, conventional cargo, and other segments of maritime transport.

The company structures its corporate social responsibility policy around three areas: working conditions and relations with its employees, management of the impact of its port facilities, and governance practices. These areas are part of the information Marsa Maroc publishes about its corporate commitments and activities.

In the environmental field, the operator considers initiatives related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, waste management, and the protection of water resources and the marine environment. It also includes preventing pollution associated with operations at its terminals among its areas of focus.

In the social area, its stated commitments cover occupational health and safety, professional training, equality between women and men, and relations with suppliers and communities near its facilities. Regarding governance, the company identifies transparency, business ethics, and the management of its relationships with customers and other stakeholders as areas of its corporate policy.
