CMA CGM has communicated a new update to its emergency fuel surcharge applied to land transport in Spain, called Inland Emergency Fuel Surcharge (IEFS), which will set the fuel supplement for road services at 18.5% of the transport rate. The new conditions will come into effect on October 5, 2026.
The revision also affects rail transport and operations that combine rail and road. In both cases, the surcharge will be set at 13% of the transport rate. This same percentage will apply to the services identified by the company as Rail Ramp.
According to information published by CMA CGM Spain, the IEFS applies to land services corresponding to goods loaded in Europe or unloaded in European territory. For exports, the application of the new conditions will be determined based on the date of departure, while for imports, the date of unloading will be taken into account. The shipping company notes that the percentages will remain in effect until further notice and will be subject to any applicable regulatory requirements.
The update represents an increase compared to the levels applied since September 8. In that revision, CMA CGM had set the surcharge for road transport in Spain at 16% of the rate, while rail, combined rail-road transport, and Rail Ramp were subject to 10%. Thus, the new scheme represents an increase of 2.5 percentage points for road and three points for rail modalities.
