The Digital Entrepreneurship Center in Port Logistics of the Port of Algeciras has hosted this September a new training session aimed at the startups participating in the second edition of its Acceleration Program. The activity is integrated into Misión Andalucía and focuses on technological entrepreneurship and the development of solutions applied to the logistics-port sector.
The day featured the participation of Alejandro Herrera, CISO of the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay (APBA), and Juan González, head of the Data Analytics Information System of the Technology Development Area of the port institution. Both conveyed to the entrepreneurs a practical vision of the challenges related to cybersecurity, data management, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in critical infrastructures and environments with a high degree of digitization like the Port of Algeciras.
The training has covered different concepts related to the protection of systems and data, the management of technological risks, and the threats associated with the digital transformation process. Among the topics addressed, the incorporation of security criteria from the early phases of developing new technological products and services has also been highlighted.
Participants have also analyzed trends related to information protection, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance. These are areas that acquire special relevance for technology companies that intend to develop solutions for critical infrastructures or integrate into the systems used by logistics and maritime-port operators.
The session has dedicated part of its contents to advanced data management and the data-driven model developed by the APBA. The heads of the Technology Development Area have explained the main initiatives related to data governance, advanced analytics, and the application of artificial intelligence tools.
Startups have been able to learn about examples of projects already implemented in the port environment and the general lines of the AI strategy of the Port Authority. This approach allows transferring to the participating projects use cases linked directly to the operational and technological needs of a port that has numerous digital systems associated with logistics activity.
The management of information is also related to the protection of digital assets and the continuity of operations. The growing incorporation of connected systems, information exchange platforms, and analysis tools introduces new needs in terms of security and risk management, especially in facilities considered critical infrastructures.
The activity is part of the training itinerary established for the startups of the second edition of the Acceleration Program of the Digital Entrepreneurship Center. The program combines training sessions, specialized mentoring, and immersion experiences in the port ecosystem to bring business projects closer to the existing needs in the maritime-port logistics chain.
This contact with the APBA professionals allows participants to learn about the digital transformation processes developed by the Port Authority and raise questions related to the application of their own solutions. During the day, entrepreneurs exchanged experiences and doubts with technology leaders about aspects related to security, data, and the possibilities offered by current artificial intelligence tools.
