The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has launched a new mobile application aimed at transporters operating daily in the port, with the goal of managing heavy traffic and providing drivers and operators with updated real-time information on the activity of the facility. The tool, available for Android and iOS devices, is part of the strategy for digitalizing services for the port logistics community that the entity has been rolling out in recent years.

According to the Port Authority, it is "a tool designed to facilitate a more efficient, agile, and coordinated management of heavy traffic in the port of Algeciras". The focus is on two fronts: reducing waits and improvised coordinations at the access points, and giving the transporter a complete picture of the operation before approaching the quay.

The application integrates a wide range of operational data into a single screen. The user can consult the expected departure times of ships, the opening and closing of shipments, and the real-time location of the boats, three critical variables for planning the arrival of cargo at the dock. This is in addition to the status of the operational areas of the facility and the location of areas of interest for the driver, from parking to waiting points.

The app also includes information on calls for positioning at the Border Control Post (PCF), a relevant piece of data for coordination between the transporter, the terminal, and inspection services, as well as access to container terminals in real-time. The tool also incorporates the official distance document from the Algeciras Bay Container Transporters Association (ATCBA), a reference document for calculating rates and routes within the port facility.

One of the points that the APBA itself highlights is the multilingual vocation of the application. The entity indicates that the app "is automatically available in the language configured on the user's mobile device, facilitating its use by drivers and operators of different nationalities", a function designed for a port that concentrates a very significant part of the ro-ro traffic between Europe and North Africa and works daily with transporters from European, Maghreb, and other origins.

The port of Algeciras is the first Spanish port complex by container volume and one of the main transshipment nodes in the western Mediterranean, with operations that combine container terminals, vehicle traffic, bulk, and intense ferry activity with Morocco. In this context, the daily circulation of trucks within the facility is one of the key elements of operational management and one of the levers to reduce dwell times and logistics costs.

The application joins other digital tools that the Port Authority has been incorporating to structure the relationship with the logistics community, and transfers to the transporter's terminal information that until now was dispersed across different channels — phone inquiries, internal notices from the terminals, or direct communication with the APBA itself. The entity has not yet offered a schedule for incorporating new functionalities, nor has it broken down the expected usage data for the application.

The app can already be downloaded from the application stores for Android and iOS, and its use is open to the community of transporters and operators working with the port of Algeciras.
