The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has awarded the electricity supply contract to Gas Natural Comercializadora for an amount greater than two million euros, in a decision that aims to centralize and optimize the energy consumption of all its facilities.

The APBA manages the ports of the Bay of Algeciras and Tarifa, in addition to providing maritime navigation assistance in the Strait of Gibraltar. Its infrastructure network includes not only ports, but also port areas, lighthouses, and buoys distributed between Barbate and Sotogrande.

The new contract contemplates the supply of electrical energy both at high and low voltage for all points managed by the port authority. The estimated consumption during the period of validity amounts to 11,666 MWh, calculated from historical data from previous years.

So far, the supply was in the hands of Endesa Energía S.A. Unipersonal, whose contract —signed in March 2024— ends on March 31, 2026 after an extension.

With this award, the APBA bets on a unified management model of the energy supply, with the aim of improving operational efficiency and facilitating consumption control across all its facilities.
