CMA Terminals, a subsidiary of French shipping group CMA CGM, has completed its acquisition of a stake in Nador Container Terminal (NCT), the concessionaire company for the West Container Terminal at the future Moroccan port of Nador West Med. The transaction was formalized after receiving approval from the competent authorities, Marsa Maroc announced on Thursday, October 15.
With this transaction, Marsa Maroc retains majority control of the concessionaire company, with 51% of the share capital and voting rights, while CMA Terminals holds the remaining 49%. Both companies will participate in operating the port facility, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
The addition of CMA CGM’s subsidiary puts into effect the partnership agreement signed by Marsa Maroc and CMA Terminals in October 2025, under which the two companies established the terms for jointly developing and managing the West Container Terminal at the Nador West Med port complex.
The project includes infrastructure featuring 900 linear meters of quay, a depth of 18 meters, and 37.5 hectares of land for port operations. Once fully developed, the facility will have a handling capacity of up to 1.8 million TEUs per year.
According to the technical specifications set out in the agreement announced in October 2025, the terminal will cover a total area of 60 hectares and, in its final configuration, will be equipped with eight ship-to-shore container cranes. It will begin operating progressively from 2027.
The port of Nador West Med is located on Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, in Betoya Bay, near the mouth of the Kert River and close to the Strait of Gibraltar. The complex is designed to support port activities related to international freight traffic, including the transshipment of containers between maritime services.
CMA Terminals’ participation brings the CMA CGM Group’s division specializing in terminal management and development into the project. According to figures provided by Marsa Maroc, the company has a portfolio of 66 port assets across different regions of the world and handled approximately 52 million TEUs in 2025.
Marsa Maroc currently operates 36 terminals across 21 ports and handles annual traffic of more than 67 million tonnes of goods. The Moroccan company operates port facilities and participates in terminal management projects alongside various international operators.
The shareholding structure of Nador Container Terminal thus establishes the two companies’ joint participation in the future operation of the West Terminal, which will become part of the facilities serving container traffic at the Moroccan port complex.
