The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) received this week a delegation from AAPA LATAM led by its Executive President, Juan Andrés Duarte, and its Programs Director, Mariana Granados, in a day dedicated to the exchange of experiences and the analysis of possible lines of cooperation between the Port of Algeciras and the port sector of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The General Director of the APBA, José Luis Hormaechea, welcomed the organization's representatives and presented the functioning of the Algeciras enclave and the main lines included in the Strategic Plan 2030 vision 2040 of the Port Authority. The document covers areas such as innovation, digital transformation, energy transition, intermodal connectivity, and the port's relationship with its environment.
The visit takes place within the framework of the Port of Algeciras's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, a region representing nearly 20% of its full container import and export traffic. Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil, and Chile are among the main trade partners of the Algeciras port in this market, according to data provided by the APBA itself.
AAPA LATAM constitutes the structure for Latin America of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), an organization linked to the American port sector. The entity reestablished a specific structure for Latin America in 2024 under the direction of Juan Andrés Duarte, with a team established in the region focused on knowledge exchange and cooperation between ports and companies related to logistical and port activities.
