Algeciras will once again bring together maritime-port sector specialists next October to address the main challenges related to the decarbonization of maritime transport and port activity. The Port Authority of Algeciras Bay (APBA) will hold the second edition of the Decarbonization. Green Corridors. MEDPorts Training Course from October 27 to 29, 2026, an initiative organized with The MEDPorts Association, the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), and the University of Cádiz (UCA).
The training will take place in the UCA-SEA building in Algeciras and will bring together international experts to analyze issues related to green maritime corridors, the development and use of alternative fuels, cooperation between ports, and the energy transition processes currently facing the sector.
The program will continue from the first edition held in 2024, when Algeciras hosted an international training focused on the transformation of ports in light of new environmental and regulatory demands. That event addressed issues such as international regulations applied to maritime transport, European policies on sustainability, alternative fuels, and the development of green corridors.
This year's edition is also included in the micro-credential offerings of the University of Cádiz. The training has an academic load of 1.5 ECTS credits, will be conducted in person, and is linked to the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Algeciras, as part of the collaboration between the academic institution and the Port Authority.
This cooperation is also developed through SEA-EU, an alliance comprised of European universities with a common connection to the sea and coastal territories. The APBA participates as an associate member and is part of initiatives aimed at connecting the university environment with the professional and technological needs of the ports.
The organization of the course together with MEDPorts also expands its Mediterranean dimension. The association groups together port authorities from different countries in the basin and develops lines of work related to sustainability, training, digitalization, institutional cooperation, and energy transition.
The UCA-SEA building will again serve as the headquarters for this initiative. The center is oriented towards university activities in research, knowledge transfer, and innovation linked, among other areas, to logistics, maritime transport, sustainability, and the blue economy.
The APBA has currently announced the dates and main contents of the second edition, while the detailed program of sessions and participants will be announced later.
