The president of the Port Authority of Ceuta, Juan Manuel Doncel Doncel, has expressed his gratitude to the professionals who make up the staff of the Port of Ceuta for the work carried out during the last few weeks in light of the situation arising from the migratory pressure affecting the autonomous city and its port facilities.

In a note addressed to the workers, Doncel refers to the situation that Ceuta is going through after the events recorded in the last few weeks and compares it to the episode experienced in May 2021. The president of the port institution points out that these events have generated concern among citizens and have once again placed Ceuta in a scenario of special complexity due to its geographical position.

The head of the Port Authority also refers to the commitment conveyed by the president of the government with Ceuta and to the consideration of the recent events as a violation of Spanish territorial integrity. In this context, Doncel demands that this commitment be materialized in actions and means aimed at restoring normality and ensuring the safety of the population.

The communication includes gratitude to the Security Forces and Corps, emergency services, entities and associations participating in the response to the situation, the port community, volunteers, and the media for the work done since the beginning of the crisis.

A central part of the message is dedicated to the workers of the Port Authority of Ceuta. Doncel acknowledges the staff's effort to maintain essential services and the activity of the port in a context characterized by high human, logistical, and operational demands.

The president of the Port Authority considers that the geopolitical singularity of Ceuta recurrently exposes the city and its infrastructure to complex situations. Within this scenario, he thanks port public employees for their dedication, commitment, and professionalism during the last few weeks and their contribution to maintaining essential services.

The Port Police also occupies a specific part of the statement. Doncel recognizes the work carried out by its members to ensure the safety of the port community and the facilities during times of high operational pressure.

According to the president, the agents have had to manage critical situations within the port area and reconcile the functions related to the monitoring and control of the facilities with attending to people who are in particularly vulnerable situations. The writing refers to both the operational response capacity of the agents and the human component of the interventions carried out.

Doncel states that managing scenarios with high emotional and operational tension requires professionalism and response capacity. In this regard, he assigns a relevant role to the Port Police in maintaining order, security, and operability of critical infrastructure at the Port of Ceuta during episodes of increased migratory pressure.

The president also appreciates the operational readiness maintained by the agents and their intervention in circumstances that, as indicated in his writing, have at times required particularly complex actions. The note also emphasizes the need to reconcile the fulfillment of port functions with attention to the personal circumstances of those entering the facility under vulnerable conditions.

The situation in Ceuta presents particularities that directly affect the management of its port. Its position in the Strait of Gibraltar and its status as an external border of the European Union turn the port facilities into one of the areas where commercial and passenger activity can converge with episodes related to migratory movements.

The Port of Ceuta also constitutes an essential infrastructure for the connectivity of the city, particularly through maritime connections with the Peninsula. This circumstance requires maintaining the continuity of services and safety conditions even during extraordinary situations that may affect different points of the facility.

In his communication, Doncel finally extends his recognition to all workers of the Port Authority for maintaining their activity during the most difficult moments. The president links this response to the continuity of public port service and the functioning of facilities that are essential for Ceuta.

The note concludes with an acknowledgment of the Ceuta society and its response to the difficulties arising from the situation of the last few weeks. The message from the president of the Port Authority particularly focuses on the actions of the port professionals and the Port Police, both in tasks related to security and in maintaining the operability of the facilities.
