Spanish exports of goods reached 35.545 million euros in June 2026, 5.3% more than in the same month of the previous year and the highest record in the historical series for a month of June. The growth in external sales coincided, however, with a more intense increase in imports, which reached 43.232 million euros, an increase of 15.7% and also a historical high for this month, as shown by the declared trade data from Customs and collected in the Monthly Report on Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise, prepared by the Secretary of State for Trade.
As a consequence of this trend, the trade deficit stood at 7.686 million euros, compared to the 3.588 million registered in June 2025. The imbalance thus increased by nearly 4.099 million in year-on-year terms, although it remained below the 8.244.8 million counted in May.
The data come from the declared trade from Customs and are collected in the Monthly Report on Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise, prepared by the Secretary of State for Trade. The analysis of the series shows that May and June concentrate the largest monthly deficits recorded so far in 2026.
Energy had a significant weight in the June performance. Energy exports grew by 49.9%, in a context characterized by the rising prices of these products and by the activity of Spanish refining capacity. The Customs breakdown shows that exports corresponding to the chapter of fuels and mineral oils reached 2.540.7 million euros, an increase of 40.1% in value, while the traded volume decreased by 9.9%.
In energy imports, there was a coincidence of the increase in value and volume. Foreign purchases of fuels and mineral oils totaled 5.536 million euros in June, an increase of 43.8%, with a 9.4% rise in tons. During the first half of the year, Spain exported 12.111.8 million euros in these products and imported 31.675 million, according to calculations based on Customs data.
Outside the energy component, exports increased by 2.4% in June and recorded a growth of 3.5% in volume. Among the sectors with the greatest positive contribution to the annual variation of external sales were energy products, with three percentage points; other goods, with 1.3 points; non-chemical semi-manufactures, with 0.8 points; raw materials, with 0.3 points; and the automotive sector, with 0.1 points.
The community market maintained its weight as the primary destination for Spanish products. Exports to the European Union represented 62.4% of the total in June and grew by 7%, to 22.189 million euros. Nine community destinations recorded record numbers for a June month, including Germany, Poland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic.
Sales to non-EU countries represented 37.6% and grew by 2.5%. Spanish exports to China increased by 0.2% and those destined for the United States grew by 4.4%, marking four consecutive months of growth in the U.S. market. Conversely, imports from China increased by 24.1% and those from the United States by 24.7%.
Trade with the European Union also maintained a favorable balance. Spain recorded a community trade surplus of 1.574 million euros in June and accumulated 12.764 million during the first half of the year. The balance with the EU has remained in positive territory uninterrupted since January 2017.
Customs data also show the weight gained by ship provisioning within foreign trade. This statistical destination accounted for 1.476.9 million euros in June, an increase of 75.1% compared to a year earlier and the highest figure in the series for this month. Of this amount, 745.8 million corresponded to provisioning in community exchanges and 730.9 million to ships linked to third countries. For the entire semester, these operations totaled 6.045.3 million, an increase of 19.4%.
The trend has a special impact in Cádiz. The province exported 858.5 million euros in June, an increase of 39.4% compared to a year earlier, making it the leading exporting province in Andalusia during the month. The two provisioning items totaled 190.7 million, equivalent to 22% of Cadiz's exports. The amount for ships from third countries reached 115.7 million and the intracommunity amount was 75 million.
In Andalusia as a whole, exports reached 22.429.8 million euros between January and June, an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2025, and equivalent to 11.2% of Spanish sales abroad. Imports grew by 11.4%, to 22.444 million, leaving a negative balance of 14.2 million. Cádiz accumulated 4.120.3 million in exports, a decrease of 5.3%, and 5.921.3 million in imports, an increase of 22%.
For the whole of Spain, exports totaled 201.134 million euros during the first half, an increase of 2% and the second highest figure in the series for this period, just 323 million below the maximum recorded in 2023. Imports reached 233.915 million, an increase of 5.2%, and the accumulated trade deficit rose to 32.781 million euros.
The base of companies operating continuously in foreign markets also grew. The number of regular exporters increased by 0.8% until June and reached 43.664. These companies concentrated exports of 193.788 million euros during the period.
