The president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce, and the president of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Tao Chegbo, have signed an agreement to promote a green maritime corridor between both ports, in line with the decarbonization objectives of the port system and the APBA Green Strategy. The event was attended by the economic and commercial counselor of Spain in Shanghai, María Simó, and the director of operation of State Ports (OPPE), Pedro García Navarro.
The signing took place during the welcome ceremony of the Maritime Port Forum (MPF) held in Ningbo, with the participation of port authorities and companies from the sector of major international docks.
The relationship between the Port of Algeciras and Ningbo has been close since 2018 when both docks signed their first collaboration agreement in Moncloa in front of the presidents of China and Spain, during Xi Jinping's first visit to Spain. Since then, both ports have collaborated on various issues, including the environment, a line of work that has led to this new agreement whose objective is to promote the achievement of net zero emissions in maritime transport in the Algeciras-Ningbo corridor.
The agreement adopts a value chain approach to comprehensively address decarbonization, which also involves the main actors in the supply chain, such as terminals, shipping lines, shippers, energy suppliers, and knowledge centers. This approach seeks to increase the transformative potential of the initiative compared to isolated actions.
