The Port of Algeciras has recently received a delegation from the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile, in a visit organized by the Foundation for the Internationalization of Public Administrations (FIAP) as part of the EUROCLIMA initiative. The meeting has taken place under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Chilean Ministry of Transport and the Public Agency State Ports at the end of 2025.
During the day, the delegation from the Andean country was able to learn about the experience of the Port of Algeciras in areas such as operational efficiency, digitization, and decarbonization, as well as the projects related to the energy transition that the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) is developing under its Green Strategy and the Green Energy Hub.
Chile is undergoing a modernization process of its logistics and infrastructure system aimed at improving the standards of efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability of its foreign trade. In this context, the visit to Algeciras responds to the interest of the Chilean authorities to learn firsthand about European port management models that may serve as a reference for their own reform.
The meeting also served to address the Digital Interoperability Project between the Central American Digital Trade Platform (PDCC) and the Port Community System (PCS) of the Port of Algeciras. This initiative, framed within the Global Gateway Strategy, is promoted by the APBA along with the European Union and the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA). The project allows for advance inspections, ensures a swift, secure, and intelligent documentary flow, and offers exporters and operators physical and documentary traceability of the merchandise from port to port.
