Stone Brothers Group has carried out its first event within the Go-ODS initiative at the TTI Algeciras terminal, a day in which its company TransPiedra has tested its emergency response protocol in the port environment through a practical exercise.
The drill simulated a spill from a container and allowed for on-site demonstration of the procedures planned for containment, collection, and cleanup of the spilled material. The operation was conducted in a planned and controlled manner in front of representatives from shipping companies, local businesses, and institutions.
TransPiedra, a company of Stone Brothers Group specialized in waste management, cranes, transportation, and responses to environmental emergencies, was responsible for executing the exercise at the TTI Algeciras facilities in the Port of Algeciras.
The day was attended by representatives from the Government of Andalusia, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), and the City Council of Algeciras, as well as companies linked to maritime and port activities.
Among the attendees were the territorial delegate for Economy, Finance, European Funds and Industry, Energy and Mines, Inmaculada Olivero Corral; the territorial delegate for Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing, Carmen Sánchez Barrera; the territorial delegate for Health and Consumption, Eva Pajares; the deputy delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in the Campo de Gibraltar, Francisco Javier Ros Rodríguez; and the president of the APBA, Gerardo Landaluce.
The meeting was presented by Manuel Piedra Lara, co-founder and CEO of Stone Brothers Group, who emphasized operational safety and environmental protection as key areas of action for the company. During his speech, he stated that both aspects constitute "fundamental pillars" of the group's corporate responsibility and explained that the company has proposed a new approach this year to address its actions related to sustainability.
The drill was directed by Javier Piedra Lara, co-founder of the group and director of Safety, Operations, and Facilities of Stone Brothers Group. During the exercise, he explained the different phases of the protocol applied by TransPiedra in case of a spill.
The procedure included the activation of the emergency response team, the cordoning off of the affected area, and the subsequent tasks of containment and collection of the spilled material. According to information provided by the company, these actions are carried out in accordance with MARPOL regulations and applicable environmental standards for port activities.
The opening of the event also included the participation of the CEO of TTI Algeciras, Alonso Luque, who welcomed the attendees to the terminal. For his part, David Delgado Carretero, director of QHSSE, explained the actions taken from the initial detection of an emergency to the intervention by TransPiedra.
The exercise held at TTI Algeciras is part of Go-ODS, an initiative with which Stone Brothers Group plans to organize biannual events linked to the Sustainable Development Goals and various actions related to its business activities.
