Maersk has incorporated the container ship AS Petronia into the operation of its SLN service – Mediterranean Sea C, the line that connects different ports of the eastern and western Mediterranean while keeping the Port of Algeciras within its rotation.
The scheduling data from the shipping company itself places the AS Petronia currently operating in the SLN service. The vessel, identified with IMO number 9286786, has an approximate capacity of 2,556 TEUs, is 210 meters long, and sails under a Portuguese flag. Published schedules by Maersk show its participation in the trips 634W and 635E of this line.
Its incorporation means increasing the number of vessels used in this Mediterranean connection and allows for greater capacity within the service that links the western Mediterranean with Turkey, Israel, and Egypt.
The AS Petronia has already initiated its operation within this rotation. Maersk's schedule corresponding to Morocco records a departure from Casablanca on trip 635E, while the navigation and planning data from the shipping company subsequently place the vessel heading to Algeciras.
The current configuration of the SLN service includes the stops of Casablanca, Algeciras, Tangier Med, Mersin, Haifa, Alexandria, Valencia, and Barcelona. This rotation was established by Maersk in April 2025, when the company removed the stop at Fos-sur-Mer and modified the order of the Spanish stops in Valencia and Barcelona.
The line had begun operating in January 2025 under the name SLN – Mediterranean Sea C. Its initial configuration included Mersin, Haifa, Alexandria, Fos-sur-Mer, Barcelona, Valencia, Algeciras, Casablanca, and Tangier Med, before the subsequent reorganization of stops.
Within the current route, Algeciras is located in the western section between Casablanca and Tangier Med before the vessels continue towards the eastern Mediterranean. Conversely, the service connects the Spanish ports of Valencia and Barcelona with Casablanca and the Strait.
The AS Petronia is a container ship built in 2004, with a deadweight of 34,315 tons and a nominal capacity of 2,556 TEUs. The vessel had already been operating for Maersk prior and is included in the company's scheduling systems during the months of July and August 2026.
The incorporation of the vessel thus modifies Maersk's deployment in a regional line that directly connects the main markets of the western Mediterranean with the eastern Mediterranean and keeps the Port of Algeciras as one of its regular stops.
