GNV and the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) have formalized a strategic alliance for the period 2027-2029 aimed at increasing passenger flows and maritime connections between Morocco and Europe. The agreement was concluded in Rabat coinciding with the celebration in Marrakech, from October 2 to 5, of the seventh edition of the GNV Awards, the annual meeting of the shipping company with its collaborating travel agencies.

The collaboration includes a joint action plan that will combine the tourist promotion of Morocco with GNV's maritime, commercial, and digital network. Among the planned measures are communication campaigns in major European markets, territorial promotion actions, and proposals that integrate ferry travel with the Moroccan tourist offer, aimed at both European travelers and Moroccan citizens residing in Europe.

Italy will have a specific weight within this strategy. According to data provided by the ONMT, Morocco received 1.15 million Italian tourists in 2025, of which approximately 15% arrived by sea. The agreement sets the objective of reaching 350,000 passengers departing from Italy through greater promotion of the destination and the development of maritime traffic with the North African country.

The planned program for the Italian market includes joint communication campaigns, actions on radio and television, marketing through content creators, presence of the Morocco destination within the network of agencies linked to GNV, and promotional activities in public spaces. The ONMT frames these measures within its strategy to increase the arrival of travelers from Italy and expand the weight of maritime transport in these travels.

The relationship between both entities occurs in a context of growth in GNV's activity. The company transported around 2.2 million passengers between January and September 2026, a 2% increase compared to the same period the previous year, and managed 1.84 million linear meters of cargo, with a year-on-year increase of 5%.

GNV considers Morocco one of its main markets within its Mediterranean network, both for tourist and commercial movements as well as for the movements of Moroccan communities residing in Europe. The company already operates various connections with the country and has allocated new units of its fleet to these services. The cooperation with ONMT further continues the actions developed around the GNV Aurora, a vessel intended for the Moroccan market whose naming ceremony took place on June 1.

During the GNV Awards held in Marrakech, the shipping company also announced the names of the four upcoming ships that will be incorporated into its fleet: GNV Jupiter, GNV Mars, GNV Venus, and GNV Mercury. The four units will be powered by liquefied natural gas. The first of them, the GNV Jupiter, is under construction at Guangzhou Shipyard International in China, and its incorporation is expected before the end of 2027.

The GNV Jupiter will have capacity for 2,500 passengers, 3,500 linear meters of cargo, and 500 cabins. These four constructions will be incorporated after the units Polaris, Orion, Virgo, and Aurora, which are part of the fleet renewal program developed by GNV with the support of the MSC Group.
