The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has put out to tender the contract for works of the "Project for repair actions in the public area of the Juan Carlos I Pier, bollards 3-35", with a base bid budget of 724,236.64 euros (VAT included) and an estimated value of 598,542.68 euros.
The works, which will have an execution period of five months, cover the public area of the Juan Carlos I East pier—at the container terminal operated by APM Terminals—and respond to the accumulated deterioration after nearly thirty years of service of the superstructure, the cantilever beam, and the pavements of this port infrastructure.
The periodic inspections carried out by the technical services of the APBA, along with an incident report submitted in December 2025 by the technical department of the concessionaire, have identified seven types of pathologies: isolated damage to the cantilever beam, deterioration and sinking of rigid and flexible pavements, blockages in rainwater channels, damage to the shoulders and rail covers of the STS cranes, deficiencies in grates, slabs of manholes and wells, and open and damaged pavement joints.
The planned actions include the demolition and reconstruction of the damaged cantilever areas with R4 thixotropic mortar, the replacement of rigid pavements using fiber-reinforced concrete on compacted artificial gravel, the milling and laying of hot bituminous mixture for flexible pavements, and the reconstruction of shoulders and rail covers of the gantry cranes. Repair of the drainage network and signage is also included.
