On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has launched Environmental Week, a program of activities focused on raising awareness, dissemination, and active involvement of the port community. The initiative is part of the APBA's Green Strategy and this edition involves collaboration with APM Terminals Algeciras, a company adhering to this strategy, through its 'Go Green' program, in a joint action aimed at cooperation with the port community on sustainability.
The programming revolves around four major events that will take place from Wednesday, June 3, to Saturday, June 6, with the aim of combining educational content, technical training, specialized debate, and citizen participation.
Among the scheduled activities, the earliest is the exhibition 'The threat of plastic in marine life', located in the pre-embarkation hall of Ceuta at the Maritime Station of Algeciras and open to the public throughout June. The exhibit aims to raise awareness about the issue of plastic and invite reflection on its impact on the natural environment through real photographs taken in the Bay of Algeciras, provided by Ecolocaliza, a company also adhering to the APBA's Green Strategy.
This Wednesday, June 3, the APBA has organized the webinar 'Carbon Footprint Port Bay of Algeciras', aimed at the port community. The session covers the basic concepts of greenhouse gases (GHG) and the carbon footprint, as well as its application in the port environment. During the meeting, the results corresponding to the 2025 exercise in the Port of the Bay of Algeciras, emission reduction strategies, and the main lines of work aimed at the progressive decarbonization of port activity will be presented. APM Terminals Algeciras will also share its roadmap for emission reduction in its facilities, as well as its participation in the LIFE CO2RK project.
