The Port of Gibraltar closed the first half of 2026 with 2,869 ship calls for fuel supply, compared to the 2,548 recorded between January and June of the previous year. The difference represents an increase of 12.6%, according to activity data from the Port Authority of Gibraltar.
In June, there were 553 bunkering calls, 17.2% more than the 472 of the same month in 2025. In absolute terms, the port handled 81 more operations than a year earlier.
The monthly figure, however, was below that reached in May, when 599 calls were recorded. The variation between the two months was down 7.7%, with 46 fewer operations in June. The 599 vessels handled in May constitute the highest monthly record in the available series since January 2011.
The trend of the first half shows reduced activity during the first two months of the year and an increase starting in March. The Port Authority's statistics show 359 calls for fuel supply in January, 357 in February, 468 in March, 533 in April, and 599 in May. These operations were added to the 553 corresponding to June.
The monthly average for the first half was approximately 478 calls, compared to an average close to 425 during the same period in 2025. The data refer to the number of vessels that came to the port to carry out bunkering operations and not to the amount of fuel supplied.
The comparison with last year also reflects that the activity in 2026 surpassed the year-on-year figures in five of the six months analyzed. In January, there were 359 calls, compared to 389 in 2025. In February, there were 357, compared to 349; March went from 320 to 468 operations; April, from 445 to 533; May, from 573 to 599; and June, from 472 to 553.
The semester balance also includes 110 cruise calls, 11 more than the 99 recorded between January and June of 2025. The increase in this segment was 11.1%. Up to May, the port statistics recorded 91 calls, distributed between seven in January, six in February, 20 in March, 34 in April, and 24 in May. The remaining 19 corresponded to June.
In the entirety of 2025, Gibraltar recorded 5,267 ship calls for fuel supply and 220 cruise calls, according to the annual balance of the Port Authority. During the first half of 2026, bunkering operations accounted for 54.5% of all recorded throughout the previous year.
