Cavotec has obtained an order valued at seven million euros to adapt several container ships with shore power connection systems. The contract has been signed with an international shipping company whose identity has not been disclosed and includes the installation of this technology on vessels equipped with low and medium voltage electrical systems.
The work will be carried out while the ships continue to provide service, a formula with which the company aims to avoid interruptions in its navigation programs. The order was formalized during the second quarter of 2026 and the corresponding deliveries are expected throughout this same year.
The operation expands the commercial relationship between Cavotec and the shipping company, which has selected the company to equip a total of 24 container ships with shore power systems during the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years. The company has not detailed the specific number of ships included in the new contract, the ports where they will operate, nor the individual characteristics of each installation.
The shore power connection allows docked ships to receive energy from the port grid through equipment installed both at the dock and aboard. In this way, vessels can limit the use of their auxiliary engines during their stay in port, as long as the port facilities have compatible infrastructures.
The adaptation of ships that are already in service requires the integration of electrical and connection equipment into the existing facilities of the vessel. In this case, Cavotec will carry out the interventions without removing the units from their commercial routes, according to the information provided by the company itself.
Cavotec's CEO, David Pagels, has indicated that the client continues to expand the incorporation of the shore power solutions provided by the company. The executive has also linked the new contract to the growth of demand for technologies aimed at the electrification of ships and to Cavotec's position in the international market for these systems.
The company develops connection solutions between ships and land power networks for different segments of maritime transport. The order for seven million adds to the orders received during the last two fiscal years for the transformation of the fleet of this same client.
The communicated schedule places the complete execution of the new order before the end of 2026. Cavotec must coordinate the interventions with the commercial activity of the container ships so that the installation and adaptation work does not interfere with the scheduled stops or itineraries established by the shipping company.
