The handling equipment manufacturer Kalmar has announced the availability of the fully electric version of its TT7 terminal tractor in the European market, thus expanding its offering of zero-emission machinery for port operations. The presentation of the TT7 EV took place during the TOC Europe fair held this week and completes the range that the company began marketing in Europe earlier this year with the launch of the diesel version of the TT7, built on a new high-strength galvanized steel chassis with reinforced axles.

The TT7 EV is offered in two models adapted to different operational needs: the TT750 EV and the TT790 EV, which has greater capacity. Both share a motor power of 490 kW, but differ in their technical specifications and available battery options.

The TT750 EV model features a wheelbase of 3,450 millimeters, a gross combined weight (GCW) of 50,000 kilograms, and a lifting capacity of 23,000 kilograms. For this model, Kalmar offers three battery options: 105 kWh, 140 kWh, and 210 kWh, allowing port operators to choose the configuration that best suits their work cycles and the autonomy required for each operation.

On the other hand, the TT790 EV, designed for more demanding operations, has a wheelbase of 3,200 millimeters, a gross combined weight of 90,000 kilograms, and a lifting capacity of 36,000 kilograms. This model is available with 140 kWh or 210 kWh batteries. Both versions of the TT7 EV charge via a 150 kW CCS2 / DC FastCharge charger, a fast charging standard that reduces machinery downtime.

Thor Brenden, president of Kalmar's Terminal Tractors division, pointed out that "the Kalmar TT7 EV is a direct response to our European customers who were waiting for a zero-emission variant of our latest terminal tractor platform." Brenden added that the company has focused on "combining the practical robustness of the TT7 series with a sustainable powertrain," and defined the new model as "a reliable and efficient solution for those seeking to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising essential power and visibility necessary for daily operations."

The electrification of port machinery is a growing trend in the sector, driven by both the decarbonization commitments of European port authorities and regulatory emissions requirements. Terminal tractors are among the most used equipment in container terminals and port logistics operations, as they handle the transport of semi-trailers and platforms between different terminal areas. Their electrification represents a significant step in reducing direct emissions in the port environment.

The presentation of the TT7 EV during TOC Europe, one of the main fairs in the port operations and terminal sector on the continent, allows Kalmar to position its new electric offering before the leading terminal operators in the European market at a time when demand for zero-emission equipment is growing.
