The dockworkers of the Port Employment Center (CPE) of Algeciras have elected 25 representatives who will form the new committee of the Coordinadora union, in primary elections held this Wednesday, May 6, in the auditorium of the José Arana Port Training Center. Out of the 2,000 dockworkers who make up the census, 1,498 voted, representing a turnout of 75%. A total of 216 candidates ran for the elections, of which 25 have been elected. Among them, 17 are repeating from the previous committee, reflecting a broad continuity in the union representation of the Algeciras port collective.
The candidate with the most votes has been Juan Carlos Pérez Yera, followed by José Antonio González Pérez and Juan Antonio Serrano Maldonado. Completing the list of the 25 elected representatives are Santiago López Lepe, Juan Antonio Chacón Carrasco, Diego Abraham Lobato Losada, Iván Losada Lobato, Sergio Barrero Gavira, Sergio Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, Ángel L. Maza de Lizana Moreno, Juan Antonio Amate Rodríguez, José Antonio Fernández García, Jesús Castillo Benigno, Manuel Monfillo González, Salvador Bernal Fernández, Gonzalo Gómez de Hoyos, David Abicarán Moreno, Raúl Becerra del Can, Sergio Linares Bruno, Emilio José Salguero Meléndez, Abel Vereda Ladrón, José María Borrego Guillén and Juan Carlos Hidalgo Collado. Rafael Castro López and José Carlos Torres Jiménez have been designated as union delegates.
The process also left a list of ten alternates composed of Jesús Amate Mata, Manuel Sánchez Gavira, Rafael Mena Benítez, Antonio Lara Barranco, Raúl Asencio Perles, Antonio Barbosa Gómez, José Antonio Ballesteros Rodríguez, José María Luque Martínez, Alejandro Gómez Gutiérrez and David Gutiérrez Gutiérrez. The complete list of results remains displayed in the glass case at the entrance of the port training center auditorium.
The electoral day took place between 07:00 and 17:00 hours, following a schedule established since April 22 which included phases for candidate presentations, publication of provisional and definitive lists, a claim period, and an electoral campaign that lasted from May 1 to May 4, with a reflection day on May 5.
The voting procedure included a double identity verification. At the first table, composed of three workers who did not present themselves as candidates, the condition of being a member of the Coordinadora was verified and the ballot and envelope were handed out. At a second table, likewise formed by three non-candidate colleagues, the vote was cast in the ballot box after a new identification. The dockworkers had to present their ID or the identification card of the Stevedoring Society with a readable photo, code, and name.
Each voter could mark a maximum of 25 candidates on their ballot. The rules established the nullity of ballots with more than 25 marks, erasures, or written comments. In case of error, the worker could request a new ballot at the entrance table, provided that they returned the previous one, which was destroyed in their presence. The process also included the possibility of delegated voting for those who could not attend in person due to being on leave, vacation, or other justified situations.
The organization of the day provided several spaces within the voting hall, including a booth with curtains to ensure the privacy of voters. The ballots, originally sealed, had to be completed inside the electoral premises, without allowing their entry or exit from the hall. The electoral tables were presided over by the workers with the longest service, the oldest, and the youngest who were not listed as candidates.
