The UCA-Sea building of the Maritime Lake of the Port of Algeciras hosts this week an international workshop focused on the implementation of electrification projects at docks and terminals of the Green and Digital Maritime Corridor Panama-Algeciras.
The adoption of Onshore Power Supply systems, OPS, is one of the initiatives with the greatest capacity to reduce emissions during ships' stays in port. The necessary investments, the evolution of these systems, and their practical application will be some of the topics participants will analyze during the two planned working days.
The meeting will bring together around fifty sector managers from Panama, Colombia, and Spain. The first day, scheduled for Monday, June 8, will be dedicated to presenting the OPS, electrification, and automation projects of the Port Authority of Algeciras, APM Terminals Algeciras, and TTI Algeciras.
During this session, they will also address the implementation schedule, the applicable regulatory framework in the European Union, the challenges for Panamanian terminals, and future plans in the Panama Canal, among other topics related to the development of the maritime corridor.
On the second day, the first intercontinental green line between the Port of Tarifa and Tangier City will be analyzed, along with the use of green hydrogen in port operations. Additionally, participants will visit the Port of Algeciras and travel in the afternoon to Cádiz to learn about the deployment of the OPS system already operational at the Cruise Terminal.
The workshop is organized by the Port Authority of Algeciras, along with the Panama Canal, the Port Authority of Cádiz, Ports of the State, and the University of Cádiz. The initiative has financial support from the European Commission through the Global Gateway Strategy.
