The Association of Large Industries of the Campo de Gibraltar adheres to the Green Strategy of the Port of Algeciras

The Association of Large Industries of the Campo de Gibraltar (AGI) has signed its adherence to the Green Strategy of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA). Prior to the celebration of the Board of Directors of the business organization this noon at the port facility, the presidents of AGI and APBA, Antonio Moreno and Gerardo Landaluce, have signed the document that formalizes the entry into the Green Strategy of the association that groups one of the main industrial hubs in the country.

The AGI brings together 15 workplaces located in the Bay of Algeciras, belonging to Acerinox, Air Liquide, APM Terminals, Endesa, Evos, Exolum, Indorama, Linde Gas Spain, Moeve, Moeve Química, Naturgy, Repsol, Repsol Butano, Viesgo, and the APBA itself. Together, these companies employ almost 8% of the workers in the province of Cádiz. In the last fiscal year for which data is available, corresponding to 2024, the environmental investments of all the companies integrated into the association exceeded 146 million euros, a figure that doubles the records of the previous year, according to the annual report of the entity.

The adhesion of the AGI as an Adherent Entity to the Green Strategy of the Port of Algeciras represents a significant step in the collaboration between the port facility and the industrial fabric of the region, aiming to align actions and objectives in environmental, economic, and social matters. The signing event was attended by the president of the AGI, the president of the APBA, as well as the heads of the Sustainable Development Area of the Port Authority and the members of the Board of Directors of the business organization.

The incorporation of the AGI into the Green Strategy is based on initiatives that the business association has been developing for some time. These include the development of collaborative governance through sectorial working committees, the promotion of energy transition through specialized training and technical forums in collaboration with the University of Cádiz, the encouragement of innovation and digitalization of industrial processes, as well as the development of good environmental practices aimed at efficiency in resource use.

These lines of work are complemented by initiatives regarding outreach and transparency, talent management, and the promotion of equality and social cohesion, actions that align with several of the commitments included in the Green Strategy of the Port Authority.

With the adherence of the AGI, there are now 45 entities committed to the Green Strategy of the APBA, which share common objectives in sustainability, decarbonization, and improvement of the port environment. This figure reflects the growing interest of the port community in moving towards a more responsible and resilient management model in the face of current environmental challenges. The Green Strategy of the Port Authority of Algeciras is configured as a space for collaboration between the port community, businesses, and entities in the area, with the aim of advancing towards a more sustainable and innovative facility better prepared to face the environmental challenges of the future.

The Bay of Algeciras concentrates one of the most significant industrial poles in southern Spain, with a business fabric linked to the energy, chemical, steel, and logistics sectors. The coordination between the port facility and the industrial companies in the area constitutes a key element in the processes of transition towards production models with less environmental impact and in the development of initiatives linked to green hydrogen and the decarbonization of industrial and port activity.
