Maersk will review starting October 1, 2026, the handling fees at the terminal applicable to all containers with origin or destination in Spain. The modification affects both the Origin Handling Charge (OHC), corresponding to operations at origin, and the Destination Handling Charge (DHC), applied at destination.
The shipping company has communicated that the adjustment responds to the increase in costs related to ports and operations. As a consequence, it will modify its freight structure to incorporate the increase in terminal handling costs.
The new rate will be 278 euros for all dry containers, regardless of their size, both for general cargo and hazardous materials. This amount will apply to the OHC on shipments from Spanish ports to any international destination and to the DHC on shipments from the rest of the world destined for Spanish ports.
For refrigerated containers, also regardless of their size, the rate will be 402 euros. The amount will apply to both refrigerated cargo and hazardous materials transported in reefer equipment, in origin and destination operations linked to Spain.
The new amounts will remain in effect from October 1, 2026, until further notice.
For reservations that do not correspond to the SPOT modality, the applicable rate will be determined according to the Price Calculation Date (PCD).
For traffic not subject to the regulation of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) of the United States, the PCD will correspond to the scheduled departure date of the first maritime segment existing at the time of reservation confirmation.
In traffic subject to the FMC, the Price Calculation Date will be the last entry date of the container at the terminal for reservations that are not SPOT.
In SPOT reservations, Maersk will use as a reference the estimated departure date of the first vessel at the time of reservation confirmation.
The company also points out that these rates may be subject to other applicable surcharges, including local charges and contingency charges.
Maersk specifies that the new amounts are not affected by other notified, published, or registered rates in accordance with local regulatory requirements, nor do they modify such rates.
For traffic subject to the US Shipping Act or China's maritime regulations, the company indicates that quotations or surcharges differing from its rate will not be binding unless included in a service contract or in a contractual modification registered with the Federal Maritime Commission or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, as applicable.
