COSCO Shipping Ports handled 80.16 million TEUs at its terminals during the first half of 2026, a 7.9% increase compared to the 74.30 million recorded in the same period of the previous year, according to the results published by the company corresponding to the six months ending June 30.
The traffic proportional to the equity stake that COSCO Shipping Ports maintains in each of its terminals reached 24.49 million TEUs, with a year-on-year increase of 7%. Of this volume, 9.94 million corresponded to facilities controlled by the group, an increase of 2.6%, while the terminals in which it holds non-majority stakes totaled 14.55 million TEUs, with a growth of 10.3%.
The terminals directly controlled by COSCO Shipping Ports together moved 16.89 million TEUs, 2.5% more than between January and June 2025, and accounted for 21.1% of the group’s global traffic. On the other hand, the non-controlled facilities reached 63.26 million TEUs, a 9.4% increase, equivalent to 78.9% of the total.
Growth was higher outside of China. The international terminals handled 21.14 million TEUs during the semester, 18% more than the 17.91 million recorded a year earlier. These facilities represented 26.4% of all containers handled by the company. The proportional traffic of international assets increased by 12.4%, reaching 7.58 million TEUs.
In China, the terminals in which COSCO Shipping Ports has stakes moved 59.02 million TEUs, which represents an increase of 4.7% and accounts for 73.6% of the company's total volume. Among the main regions of the Chinese market, the Bohai area reached 27.48 million TEUs, a 6.4% increase; the Yangtze River Delta totaled 8.68 million, with a growth of 3.6%; and the Pearl River Delta recorded 15.58 million, a 6.5% increase.
The evolution was different among some of the main international terminals. The container terminal in Piraeus handled 1.99 million TEU, 2.9% less than during the first half of 2025. COSCO Shipping Ports attributes this decline to lower demand in the Mediterranean market and adverse weather conditions.
The CSP Abu Dhabi terminal recorded 442,977 TEU, a 44.3% decrease, an evolution that the company relates to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. In contrast, the Chancay terminal in Peru moved 201,773 TEUs, 68.2% more than the 119,945 TEUs in the same period of 2025. During the semester, Chancay had three main lines and five feeder services.
The operational results were accompanied by an increase in key financial metrics. COSCO Shipping Ports' revenues grew by 12.3%, reaching 905.34 million dollars, while gross profit stood at 239.51 million, a 9.3% increase. The profit attributable to shareholders reached 233.67 million dollars, with a year-on-year increase of 28.5%. The company also declared an initial dividend of 2.360 cents per share.
As of the end of June, COSCO Shipping Ports operated and managed 394 berths in 40 ports worldwide, of which 245 were designated for container traffic. Its portfolio includes facilities in China, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa.
