CMA CGM completes the acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain for 1.4 billion dollars

CMA CGM has completed the acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain for an enterprise value of 1.4 billion dollars, three months after announcing the agreement with FedEx. The operation places the U.S. company's contractual logistics assets within CEVA Logistics, a subsidiary of the French group, and substantially expands its network in North America.

The transaction closing, announced on October 1, incorporates CEVA the assets of FedEx Supply Chain and nearly 10,000 workers. The company also adds approximately 34 million square feet of storage space from the acquired business. As a result, the combined activities reach about 150 warehouses and CEVA's total presence in North America exceeds 240 locations, with an approximate workforce of 20,000 people.

CMA CGM and FedEx announced the operation on July 1, when they established an enterprise value of 1.4 billion dollars and conditioned the closing on obtaining the corresponding regulatory approvals. At that time, both companies estimated that the incorporation of FedEx Supply Chain would nearly triple the size of CEVA's contractual logistics operations in North America.

FedEx Supply Chain develops integrated supply chain management services. Its incorporation expands CEVA's capabilities in sectors such as health, technology, consumer, and commercial distribution, in addition to incorporating digital and operational tools related to automation and robotics in warehouses. The integrated activities will primarily take place in the United States and Canada.

The transaction is part of the expansion of CMA CGM's logistics activities beyond container shipping. Through CEVA, the group operates contractual logistics services and air, sea, and land transportation. According to corporate data published with the closing of the purchase, CEVA has around 110,000 employees and more than 1,700 facilities in 170 countries. The logistics subsidiary reported revenues of 18.3 billion dollars in 2025.

The operation also establishes a new commercial relationship between CMA CGM and FedEx in maritime and air transport. The two companies have formalized multi-year agreements to develop their collaboration in these segments after the closing of the acquisition.

In maritime transport, CMA CGM will become one of FedEx's preferred carriers through a non-exclusive agreement. The French group will provide ocean transportation services to the U.S. company, a relationship that was already contemplated in the initial agreement announced in July.

The companies also plan to collaborate in air cargo capacity on certain routes considered strategic. CMA CGM explicitly cites the corridor between Asia and Europe among the contemplated connections. The approach seeks to coordinate capacity in these traffics and allow for greater utilization of available aircraft and more flexibility in long-distance operations.

When the operation was announced in July, CMA CGM and FedEx indicated that the agreements related to maritime transport and air cargo would be implemented in different phases until 2028. The closing now announced formalizes the acquisition of FedEx Supply Chain and the multi-year commercial agreements linked to both modes of transport.

The president and CEO of CMA CGM, Rodolphe Saadé, has positioned the purchase within the development of CMA CGM and CEVA Logistics in North America and the expansion of their integrated transportation and supply chain services. The executive also identified the United States as one of the long-term growth markets for the group.

On the part of FedEx, the sale was proposed in July as part of a reorganization of its business portfolio. Its president and CEO, Raj Subramaniam, explained then that the operation would allow the group to concentrate its activity in high-value-added areas such as health, automotive, aerospace, and data centers. FedEx also stated that it would maintain a commercial relationship with CMA CGM after the transfer of FedEx Supply Chain.

FedEx later confirmed the sale in its financial documentation for the year ending May 31, 2026, which included the agreement reached on July 1 and the expectation to complete the operation during the second half of the year. With the closing announced on October 1, FedEx Supply Chain is no longer part of the U.S. group's perimeter and is integrated into CEVA Logistics operations.

CMA CGM maintains an activity that includes maritime transportation, terminals, land transport, air cargo, and logistics. The group operates in 177 countries and has a fleet of more than 700 ships serving over 420 ports. In 2025, it transported more than 24 million TEUs, according to corporate data published with the acquisition closing.
